Let’s be honest with ourselves for a moment. We all have those times where we feel much less productive and motivated at work. It’s those times where even the smallest of tasks feels like they’re impossible to complete. Instead of throwing in the towel and thinking there’s nothing you can do about it, keep in mind the following ideas to help maintain your productivity day in and day out.
Take regular breaks. No person can work continuously from 9-5. Plan some time throughout your day to break-up the workday and do some mindless tasks that you’ve been meaning to cross off your to-do list.
Limit multitasking. We’re all guilty of it. We think we’re great multitaskers and can handle a few different things at one time, but time and time again studies have shown that multitasking actually limits productivity. There will be those times when multitasking is a must, but if it’s not a necessity, consider limiting yourself to one task at a time.
Break down the big tasks. Looking at a huge project sitting on your to-do list can be daunting. It can also cause you to procrastinate and think to yourself, “I’ll just do that later.” Instead of pushing it off and procrastinating, take that big task and break it down into more manageable chunks. The best way to organize a big task is by creating a to-do list, with the smaller chunks listed off one by one. That way you can check off each item as you finish them, ultimately helping you achieve the overall task!
Some days will be better than others. There will be days when you get into work and feel like you can conquer the world – take advantage of those days! On the days where you’re not feeling quite as motivated, keep these few tips in mind. They’ll help you make it through the day and accomplish everything you need to – even when you don’t feel like it.
