As 2016 ushers in a new year for us all, with snowy days and the longing to be back on the golf course, some people have to go through the lovely winter months in ‘tax season’. Now I am sure that many people have a preconceived notion that this is not the best time of year, but I would argue differently. Being a CPA in the Small Business Advisory division at The Bonadio Group, we get the opportunity to consult with our friends and clients during a time of year when people are taking a step back and really looking hard at the previous year as well as what the future holds. This is the perfect opportunity to get even closer to your friends and clients to help them set new goals for their business and possibly think about what they might want to achieve in the next several years.
The New Year always gets us thinking about starting with a clean slate, and the opportunity to achieve something that we have fell short on. What can we achieve this year to make sure this is the best year of our lives? Some of us set sights on growing a business or maybe even taking that one idea that you’ve had on your mind for so long and actually making it come true. Did you know that CPAs can help make those big ideas comes true?
One of the best parts of being a CPA is working with people and their business, and helping it grow to the next level. Whether it is deciding which type of entity to form, tax related implications, and even forecasting or projecting financial growth, having a CPA on your side is essential. Although this time of year is sometimes referred to as ‘tax season’, it’s not always strictly based on filing your taxes on time. This time of year is the perfect time to reflect on our past financial goals as well as set new financial goals.
I’ve made many great friends over the years being a part of Rochester Young Professionals and have met some pretty amazing people. I love hearing about what is driving them each day and what their goals and dreams are. I would challenge us all to take a second look at what we have set as goals for 2016, and maybe think “If I achieved this one thing, this would make it the best year ever.” And as Abraham Lincoln said, “The best way to predict your future is to create it.”
So enjoy the snow, keep warm, and go Bills (future 2017 Super Bowl Champs).
