Why I Joined RYP: Moving to Rochester was a no brainer when the opportunity arose. Finding a way to connect and network with people my own age, that required some effort once I got here. I joined RYP to learn more about what this city could offer and to meet others with the same hobbies and passions of mine.

Bio: Growing up in Northern New Jersey, I was raised in the hustle and bustle of New York City and never loved it. Moving to Rochester, thanks to the influence of my sister, allowed my husband and I the opportunity to reap the benefits of city living while still enjoying a gateway to the outdoors thanks to the finger lakes region, Lake Ontario, and the not too far away Adirondack mountains. I’ve loved being able to settle in and start creating roots in an amazing area of the country while working as a Chiropractic Assistant in Brighton. When not working, I can usually be found outside running, biking, Stand Up Paddleboarding, or snowboarding (in the winter). I also work part-time for LL Bean’s Outdoor Discovery School teaching kayaking and Stand Up Paddleboard classes on beautiful Canandaigua Lake all summer long.

Melissa Powers

Sports Co-Chair |

Why I Joined RYP: As a Rochester native moving back to the area after 10 years, it felt like an entirely new city. There had been so much development downtown that I hardly recognized it, and many of my old friends had since moved away. I joined RYP to help me rebuild my social network while experiencing all that this rapidly growing city has to offer.

Bio: After studying Math and Economics at Cornell University, I spent 5 years trading mortgage bonds in NYC then jumped ship in 2016 to travel the world and decide my next move. I concluded that Rochester could offer the high quality of life and strong sense of community that I was seeking. Living downtown with my sister and working as a mortgage broker at Banas Mortgage on Park Ave, I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I am passionate about traveling, skiing, craft beer, kielbasa, and Upstate NY. Go Bills!
